What a joy for me to write a few words about Pastor Brenda Maurer and Preaching Through the Pain. Pastor Brenda is an unusual minister, full of faith … and full of surprises.
Another surprise is when I read her new book, Preaching Through the Pain. You see, over the years, many people have sent me their manuscripts requesting that I write a Foreword or give them a quote to use. Honestly, many of them I could never finish. But surprise! Pastor Brenda’s book, Preaching Through the Pain, was different. I read it cover-to-cover and was deeply impressed with Brenda’s insight and organization.
In this book, you’ll find day-to-day examples that illustrate surprising spiritual truths. They’ll help you get through the pain that arrives on our doorsteps from time to time. I’m sure you know that life has peaks and valleys, twists and turns, ups and downs. This book will minister to you whether you are on a mountain or facing a valley.
Pastor Brenda is a get-it-done girl. And she got this book done to assist you in your walk with Jesus Christ, and to show you how to face your daily life in a fresh way.
Get ready for a journey into God’s love, healing, and restoration as you travel the pages of Preaching Through the Pain.
Dr. Dave Williams, Bishop
Mount Hope Global Ministries
Dave Williams served over 30 years as pastor of Mount Hope Church in Lansing, Michigan. Dave is also the author of over 60 books that teach and inspire readers in Christian growth, financial success, health, healing, and many other areas of Christian living.
This book is part of a series of straightforward books to help develop a follower of Christ Jesus into a “Determined Disciple.” This is someone who will go boldly into the world and preach the gospel in love, live unashamed of His name, and expand His Kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven: Preaching, Teaching, and Healing (Luke 9:23; James 3:18; Matthew 10:7-8).
As a Determined Disciple, determine every day:
Don’t look for a long line of abbreviations after my name or even before; it’s just me; wife, mother, pastor. Yes, I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my past, but every day I strive to “know Him better and make Him known”. I don’t make excuses for sin in my life and I don’t walk around with “my tail between my legs” (as my grandma would say). I know who I am in Christ and what he’s called me to. My past isn’t who I am today, nor will my scars define who I’m going to be tomorrow. I am who God says I am. God alone is The Great Potter, I simply surrender this vessel to his hands, everyday.
The books I’ve written are not to show off what I know, and you need to know. These books are to help “spur us on toward love and good deeds”. As “iron sharpens iron” let’s help encourage one another to grow deeper and deeper in love with our Savior and stay focused on the fact that we’ve been called to fulfill a “Great Commission”.
The enemy will try to use whatever he can to distract us from living on purpose. My hope and prayer is that these simple books will help to reveal those tactics and shake the dust off your feet to be able to go on.
“I have not stopped thanking God for you, I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called - his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.” Ephesians 1:16-18 (NIV)
May you continue to seek His Kingdom first, and especially his righteousness, as you walk as Jesus did in love and forgiveness, fulfilling the Lord’s Commands to go into all the world making disciples of all nations, healing the sick, raising the dead and casting out the unclean spirits.
Co-Laboring in Christ with you,
Brenda K. Maurer
